WHAT IS FILESMART?
FileSmart is a public awareness initiative, designed to educate aircraft
operators of the importance of filing timely and accurate flight plans,
helping them
to avoid air traffic delays and operate more efficiently in the National Airspace System.
FILE EARLY
Filing flight plans as soon as a trip is planned in detail – the day before, if possible – can help ensure that you avoid unnecessary delays.
FILE ACCURATELY
Filing flight plans with accurate times and routes reduces your workload, and helps the FAA more accurately predict airspace demand and reduce delays.
CHECK THE NAS
Checking the status of the National Airspace System (NAS) in advance of your flight can help save you time and money.

Most operators file flight plans shortly before their flights and with limited knowledge of what is occurring in the airspace around them.
As air traffic management becomes more complex, the need for earlier and more accurate flight plans increases.
FileSmart exists to educate operators about being proactive in seeing and avoiding delays and giving FAA the information they need to more effectively manage the National Airspace System.
